J.K. Rowling gets real, man. Real real.
Moaning Myrtle
She was murdered by a giant snake when she was twelve and was so traumatized by it that she spent the rest of her existence haunting toilets and sobbing loudly. That's gotta count for something.

The Longbottoms
These are lumped together because they shared the same, terrible fate: Bellatrix Lestrange tortured both of them so hard their brains addled. Lily and James Potter were tragically young when they met their end, but there's something especially twisted about Neville growing up knowing his parents were alive but...not quite reachable.

George Weasley, Post-Fred
George Weasley before the death of his brother was inseparable with his twin and the center of the party in any room. George Weasley after the death of his brother could probably never feel good looking in a mirror again.
Warner Bros.
Sirius Black
Friendship and adventure were everything to this dude, but then his best friend was murdered. Like, even the chillest of wizards can't survive being thrown into wizard jail for twelve years surrounded by creatures who chip away at souls. Oh and reminder: He only got like two years of fake freedom before he died. Or rather fell into a mysterious veil that Jo never fully explained.
