British photographer Jo Farrell is documenting a tradition that is dying out with China’s oldest women: foot binding.

The process of binding feet (also known as "lotus feet") started before the arch had a chance to fully-develop – somewhere between the ages of 4 and 9.

After soaking in warm herbs and animal blood, the toes would be curled over to the sole of the foot and bound with cotton bandages.

The toes and arch would be broken with force. Unbound. Rebound. Rebound tighter. And repeat.

It was considered better to get someone who wasn't your mum to do it: they were less likely to bind them sympathetically loose.

Jones suggests adding in one cup of frozen veggies to your usual pastas, stir-fries, and omelets for a nutritional boost.

Order first when eating out with friends and family.

You may have every intention in the world of ordering the chicken salad. But when you hear your friend order the creamy carbonara pasta, it's easy to forget about the salad altogether. Try to order first so that you're not tempted by what everyone else is ordering.

If there's a high-calorie, low-nutrient dish, dessert, or appetizer that you really want to try, ask a friend to split it with you. You'll end up eating less of it and saving money while you're at it.
